It
seems somewhat fitting that the American Nostalgia Racing Association Inc.
(ANRA) should announce its intention to restructure its operations
on the commemorative anniversary of this tragic date, that of
one-year ago. It is unlikely that September 11th will ever be
heralded as a holiday. Probably no "9-11 Anniversary Sale" at
Macy's, or parade celebration, or even an extra a day off work
with a visit to the beach. At least for the immediate future,
it will be remembered as a solemn day, a day to be revered and
respected (and, rightfully so), for the changes that
are now so apparent throughout our nation.
Obviously, the incidents that occurred in the nostalgia racing
arena over the last year pale by comparison to the terrorist attacks
on New York and Virginia, and the subsequent events that unfolded
as a result of 9-11. Likewise, the actions of a few people in
nostalgia drag racing that misused power entrusted to them by
association member's, and who's only crime might have been that
they lost sight of the ultimate goal; has left many nostalgia
racing enthusiasts, participants and fans alike, disillusioned,
disheartened, and disappointed nonetheless.
While we cannot change the past, |
|
we
can look forward to the future with anticipation, and make changes
that will have a positive effect on America. In some small measure,
perhaps this date can also serve as an annual remembrance of what
needs to happen to renew the optimism for nostalgia drag racing.
Bill McGloghlon (formerly, President) has been appointed
as ANRA Chairman of the Board. Many other announcements and staff
appointments will be forthcoming in the next few days and weeks.
The ANRA Operational Advisory Board is eager to listen to what
current members, as well as, prospective members have to say.
The ANRA website Board of Directors contact list will soon be
posted, and we look forward to hearing your comments. The Advisory
Board wants to know if you perceive the need for a sanctioning
body, with rules that are fair for everyone, and with the ability
to provide a racing venue for all classes of nostalgia racing
vehicles. Drag Racing - the way it used to be!!
