ROY MOORE

  11/16/1928           10/29/2005

RIP

The drag racing community at large lost a true gentleman racer 10/29/05.  While qualifying for C/Gas at the Good-Guys Fuel & Gas championship race in Bakersfield Roy Moore had a fatal on-track accident.  Roy, at a time in his life (77) that many would be content to sit back and reflect on their past accomplishments, actively sought out new challenges and experiences.  His latest endevour was resuming drag racing, even setting a goal of competing in A/Gas before he reached 80.  He was enthusiastically progressing his way through Bracket, D/Gas and C/Gas classes.

Even though Roy had been absent from racing for years, when he resumed driving he frequently treed competitors decades his junior.

Racing was a family activity for Roy, normally accompanied by his wife (of 58 years), Billie Ann, and his son, Michael.  He told his family if something should happen; just know “I’m doing what I enjoy”.

Roy was a friendly competitor who was always ready to roll up his sleeves and help, especially when it involved his beloved cars or airplanes.  Roy was not only an example but an inspiration as he displayed grace and style both on & off the track.

He will be sorely missed.  Our sincere condolences go out to his family.

New Track needs help

I Received this email from Scott Reisdorfer @ Reisdorfer Racing in Fresno, Ca and wanted to pass it on to all you racers out there that want a new place to RACE, Pits you can work in without wearing a dust mask, Stands you can set in without get getting a bunch of splinters, a clean place to take your family and enjoy racing. Lets get those emails and letters going to the Merced county Board of Supervisors and let them know that racers are real people too.

For those of you who care about having a variety of tracks to run, here is the latest from the proposed RMP racing complex in Merced County, Ca. AND IT NEEDS RACERS HELP!

In the latest update I received from the CEO, things have been pushed down the schedule ladder a little bit. AND there appears to be a small group of malcontents, approximately 30 people, calling themselves Merced County Citizens against Riverside Motorsports Park, who are trying to align themselves with the Merced County Farm Bureau, and are in a feverish letter writing campaign to the Merced County Board of Supervisors to try and sink the project. Of course, there are MORE THAN 30 people in the whole county, at least there were, last time I went thru there.

First the latest time table, the EIR draft was submitted to the county as of 28 May, the County req's 3-4 weeks to review the docs and make any changes/comments (around June 20), then RMP has to rewrite as per the corrected copy and as of approx. July 1 the document will be released to the public for a 45 day comment period (thru Aug 15 approx). Then the RMP board has another 45-60 days to respond to all comments, get the EIR re-written (with concerns addressed) and formally present it to the Board of Supers. RMP is now targeting the Boards vote to occur between mid Sept or early Oct. All the while though, RMP will be doing what's called "detailed engineering" for the site, so they say the delay isn't really going to hurt too much.

NOW about that racer hating, SUPPOSEDLY, farmers group. I've talked to the Merced Sun newspaper sports guy, and he said from what he knows, these people are basically anti-developement, and think that racers and their kind will be a bad influence to the area (they've seen commercials for Fast and the Furious I & II, and believe that's what's going to developed out of this project for those who don't want to pay to get in). They feel there will be non-stop grid lock during races, and that the racers and their fans will behind nothing but a mess of garbage and beer cans along the roadways. They also said that the Base re-opening (Air Guard) proposal is grinding on them too. I'd say they also know that the loudest cow gets milked first! As of my latest email from the RMP, they said the Board of Supers office claims that they currently are receiving a 20:1 ratio of letters against the Track opening.

Here's the bottom line, as of now it doesn't matter where you live, from Redding to Los Angeles, New Jersey to Nevada, WE NEED TO KEEP THE FAMILY OF MOTORSPORTS ALIVE! Once again, if new tracks aren't built, as the older ones get more expensive to maintain, or the quality of the tracks diminish, we will all be at a loss. Because convince is priority and the further you have to travel to participate in your sport, the less it becomes an ENJOYABLE participative activity. Less competitors, especially the young ones coming up, Less races. Less races, Less sponsors. Less sponsors, Less money to put up a car, and races. Less races, sponsors, participants, Less fans. NO FANS,NO TRACKS.

I'm not saying anyone has to pledge allegience to RMP, but to have a monster facility to fall back on (weather, style of race per weekend, Nostalgia. All years. Imports. SCCA. USAC. NHRA. NASCAR. Brand racing. Days open.Etc.), and another track out away from housing creep, is what we all live for when the bug hits us, or for that child that wants to follow in their Mom or dad's racing footsteps.

Please take a few minutes and e-mail, or write a letter, to the Board of Supervisors, in general @ Merced County Board of Supervisors, 2222 M Street, Merced,Ca. 95340. FAX (209) 726-7977. E-mail is (dist12 3 4 or 5 @co.merced.ca.us ). It doesn't have to be long and drawn out, just something in respect to how the track will help in these economic times, how it is a Family sport, and more importantly that at some point you will be putting your money into their tax coiffers.

I'd also appreciate anyone that does send off, to contact me so I can put you on a racers list. It's sckracing@msn.com .

Thanks,
Scott Reisdorfer

Winner of the BEEBE & MULLIGAN 1320 1:24 diecast model

Congratulations hope you enjoy it. Keep checking the web site for more give aways.

The tech committee is working on some new NTF rules that we think will give the average racer a place to race that cool car that has not been able to run with the big bucks cars.

The winner of the Beebe & Mulligan 1320 diecast 1:24 scale dragster will be drawn next week at the race in Vegas. We will be in the NE pits hanging with Midnight Madness & Maciel Speed Sport crew. Look us up. If you have not signed up yet it is not to late.

Rumor has it that there maybe a new Bantam roadster running NE 3 before long.
